Maggie Daley out of the hospital

Maggie Daley is back home today after spending one night at Northwestern Memorial Hospital with flu-like symptoms.

Chicago's first lady was admitted to Northwestern on Thursday because of nausea and dehydration, just two days after she left the hospital following a 10-day stay for surgery to replace a metal rod in her right leg. The rod had been inserted last year because the leg was weakened by treatment for the cancer in Daley's bones.

She was released again today from the hospital, and was resting at home, according to Jacquelyn Heard, spokeswoman for Mayor Richard Daley.

Speaking to reporters at an unrelated press conference today, the mayor said his wife was feeling much better.

Earlier, speaking at a downtown luncheon of the National Summit of the Mayors, Richard Daley choked up while talking about the influence Maggie Daley and other members of his family have had on him.

Maggie Daley was first diagnosed with metastatic breast cancer in 2002. It later spread to her bones.
